Clive Badman

GlaxoSmithKline

VP of Process & Technologies and Pilot Plants at GlaxoSmithKline

Dr Clive Badman joined Beecham Pharmaceuticals (now GlaxoSmithKline) in December 1978 following a PhD at Dundee University. From 1979 to 1995 Clive worked in a variety of roles in Process Development including a secondment to Puerto Rico. From 1995 to 2002 he has undertaken the role of Vice President, Operations, firstly at Crawley and then at Irvine.

The Irvine site produces 40% of the pharmaceutical intermediates for GlaxoSmithKline and has an annual turnover in excess of £250m. More than 96% of its manufacture is exported from the UK.

Over the last three years one of Clive`s main objectives was to focus on driving change with the involvement of everyone at GSK Irvine. Clive has successfully encouraged and led a cultural transformation which leaves the site well positioned for a major role in the worlds second biggest pharmaceutical company.

In October 2002, Clive was appointed Vice President Process Technologies and Pilot Plants Worldwide. This new role provides the opportunity to make a difference over the interface between R&D and Manufacturing.
