Founded in 1969, the Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) is the world's foremost event for the development of offshore resources in the fields of drilling, exploration, production, and environmental protection.
Attendance at the 2010 Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) reached 72,900 as offshore energy industry experts from around the world came together to share technological advances and innovative approaches at the world's largest event for offshore resources development. OTC was held May 3-6 at Reliant Park in Houston.
Attendance surpassed the 2009 total of 67,700, and the sold-out exhibition was the largest in 28 years.
Scottish Development International's 'Scottish Pavilion' played host to over 40 Scottish companies who were promoting and exhibiting Scotland's technology and expertise in that area. Joni Milligan from the GlobalScot team hosted a number of events:
- 23 of the Scottish companies participated in over 70 pre-arranged one to one meetings with 14 Globalscots, during which, the GlobalScots were able to provide valuable advice, contacts and networking opportunities
- Over 50 Scottish company representatives, GlobalScots and invited guests attended a highly successful evening networking reception where they had the opportunity to meet, network and explore opportunities.
All of the events were a great success, delivering significant value to both the Globalscots and participating Scottish companies, highlighting the value and importance of networking and making connections.
Initial feedback from the companies involved has been fantastic:
Many thanks to the SE/SDI teams for a well organised and successful OTC. I thought this was the best show for several years with new customers being particularly receptive. As always, the Scotland
Pavilion was an excellent meeting place, and the GlobalScot one to ones and reception were excellent.

In this ultra competitive world that we inhabit there is a saying that, "Nothing is Free!" Thus the experience of meeting with members of the GlobalScot organisation is so refreshing in that they are ready to give of their time, experience and local knowledge to help others without seeking anything back for themselves. Truly amazing!

As the proprietor of Nautilus Rigging LLP I was delighted to partake in the 1 2 1 GlobalScot sessions at OTC.
We have already seen evidence of the benefits of these meetings with feedback from specific questions we put to some of your GlobalScots which has assisted in our market evaluation and more specifically verified the suitability of potential international distributors for our products.
This is a great service to existing and start up companies alike, the GlobalScot members were very friendly and helpful and have offered us their valuable insight and advice to help our company progress, they all offered their ear at any time should I have concerns or be seeking advice within their fields, this openness and genuine desire to help is greatly appreciated.
Again a big Thanks to you and your GlobalScots!!
