GlobalScots enjoy Scottish Thistle Awards 2009

The Scottish Thistle Awards, which are among the most coveted accolades in the tourism industry, celebrate quality and innovation across a range of categories. The awards are widely recognised as the mark of excellence and professionalism across the industry, awarding businesses contribution to making Scotland a top visitor destination.

The winners received their award from guest presenter, Midge Ure, during a glittering ceremony at Edinburgh’s International Conference Centre on Friday 23rd October.

Congratulating the winning business, Peter Lederer, VisitScotland chairman said: “I would like to congratulate all the winners on their hard work which has led to this fantastic success.”

Minister for Tourism, Jim Mather, said: “The Scottish Thistle Awards are a real opportunity to celebrate quality and innovation in Scottish tourism. In the current economic climate, all the Thistle Award winners have shown a huge amount of dedication and hard work and I would like to thank them for not only boosting their own individual businesses, but also Scotland’s economy as a whole.

“Tourism is crucial to Scotland’s economic wellbeing and the Scottish government is determined to work with the industry to build on our successes, boost tourism figures and increase sustainable economic growth.”

The Saltire Foundation hosted a table at the Awards bringing together GlobalScots and Scottish Tourism / Food and Drink Companies.
