Making a noise around the world

For almost 40 years, Glasgow-based Linn Products has been producing precision engineered music and home cinema systems that offer unrivalled performance for customers around the world.

The company was founded in 1972 by Ivor Tiefenbrun, who combined his two passions of engineering and music to develop the iconic Sondek LP12 turntable, which would faithfully reproduce the quality of a live performance.

Since then, Linn has taken its products to a wide variety of markets from Europe to the Far East and even Africa. In growing its export markets, the company has benefited significantly from support provided by Scottish Development International and GlobalScot. This support has included a trade event in Dubai and running a series of retailer recruitment events in China.

As Director of Sales Steve Croft says, “The support we’ve had has been extremely useful in accelerating our route to market and providing access to a number of potential local partners in new markets.”

Already enjoying global success, the company is not resting on its laurels and is looking to tackle other emerging markets such as India and Brazil. It is in making contact with distributors and resellers on the ground in these markets that Steve feels GlobalScots could be of great help.

"Sometimes when you’re starting in a new territory it’s very hard to find the contacts and the businesses that are appropriate for what we want to do there,” says Steve. "It is also very useful to get a clear understanding of the business culture in any new market."
