GlobalScots at OTC 2009

GlobalScots at OTC 2009

Image of people networking at OTC Energy professionals from more than 120 countries met at the world's largest offshore resources industry event, held May 4-7 at Reliant Park in Houston.

Scottish Development International's 'Scottish Pavilion' played host to over 50 Scottish companies who were promoting and exhibiting Scotland's technology and expertise in that area. In order to optimise their experience, Julie Morrison from the International Networks team hosted a series of GlobalScot networking events during the course of the week:

15 of the Scottish companies participated in over 50 pre-arranged one to one meetings with 12 Globalscots, during which, the GlobalScots were able to provide valuable advice, contacts and networking opportunities
Over 100 Scottish company representatives, GlobalScots and invited guests attended a highly successful evening networking reception where they had the opportunity to meet, network and explore opportunities.

A small group of Globalscots met with Minister, Jim Mather to discuss some of the key priorities for the industry, share some of the challenges for the future, and talk through their involvement with GlobalScot and the support they provide to Scottish companies.

All of the events were a great success, delivering significant value to both the Globalscots and participating Scottish companies, highlighting the value and importance of networking and making connections.

Initial feedback from the companies involved has been fantastic:

"You would not believe the amount of help I recieved on three totally different areas of our business."
Brian Thomson, McNair Engineering

"The Globalscots are there to help and advise Scottish companies, using their particular knowledge and experience, gained over many years and the network reaches far and wide. You have nothing to lose."
Sans Unkles, McGeoch Marine Ltd

"The meetings with Globalscots were fantastic and gave me invaluable information into breaking into the Dubai and Houston markets."
Gordon Deuchars,G A Engineering (Scotland) Ltd
