H-E-B, one of the largest independent retailers in the US, has won the National Retailer of the Year award 2010 in Progressive Grocer magazine. San Antonio-based retailer H-E-B operates 329 stores in Texas and Mexico and has sales of more than $16 billion. GlobalScot Jody Hall is director of Global Sourcing (Food) for H-E-B.
Steve Lichtenstein, vice president and group publisher of Progressive Grocer, and Meg Major, Progressive Grocer's editor-in-chief, presented the award at the company's headquarters earlier this month.
"H-E-B truly stands apart among the nation's supermarket retailers, largely as a result of its admirable corporate culture that places a high value on its people throughout all levels of the organization," Major says. "We are proud to salute H-E-B with our highest annual honor and extend our sincere congratulations to the entire company for demonstrating true leadership in the grocery industry.
